Wiri Takes Action on Truck Parking Problems

The Wiri Business Association (WBA) is tackling the ongoing issue of illegal and dangerous truck parking in the area.

Recognizing the seriousness of the problem, the WBA has adopted a two-pronged approach.

Firstly, our security company P4G Security has been contracted to identify and report trucks parked without mandatory red warning lights at night. This information is then passed to Auckland Transport (AT) for enforcement action, resulting in dozens of infringement notices being issued.

Secondly, the WBA team conducts daytime patrols, documenting instances of illegal or dangerous parking and forwarding the information to AT.

To find long-term solutions, the WBA is collaborating with the National Road Carriers Association (NRC) and actively engaging with AT.

Representatives from the WBA and NRC recently attended an AT drop-in session regarding the new Vehicle Use and Parking Bylaw, which proposes measures to restrict heavy vehicle parking in problematic areas.

A workshop with affected businesses is planned for the New Year. This will provide a platform for businesses to voice their concerns directly to AT and explore potential solutions. The WBA is committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure the safety and efficiency of the Wiri business precinct.
