GM Column Autumn 2026
Welcome to 2026 – A Year of Action for Wiri
As we move into 2026, the momentum in our district is building. We have some major projects underway, some big wins on the board, and a few exciting changes on the horizon.
We’re on the Move!
First up, some housekeeping news: The Wiri Business Association will be moving offices in April. We have secured a new space that will better serve our team and members, and we look forward to inviting you to a “housewarming” once we are settled in.
Global Recognition for Wiri
It’s not every day an industrial precinct gets chosen as the blueprint for the future. Wiri is at the centre of the Future Urban Industry (FUI) project – a groundbreaking $9 million research initiative led by the University of Auckland.
Advocacy in Action
We are not just making noise; we are holding authorities to account. You may have heard WBA on Newstalk ZB last month calling out Auckland Transport for the unacceptable bureaucratic delays in approving our new CCTV cameras. We are fighting to cut through the red tape so we can get these vital safety assets installed without months of waiting.
On the planning front, we have formally submitted against Plan Change 120. We are urging Council to protect Wiri’s industrial operations from “reverse sensitivity” complaints and ensure that residential intensification doesn’t choke our freight networks.

Upcoming Events
We have a busy lineup ahead including:
- Prime Minister’s Breakfast: We are hosting Christopher Luxon for a special networking breakfast. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from the PM about the government’s plans for business and infrastructure. I encourage you to attend – let’s show him the strength of the Wiri business community.
- Safety & Security Event: On 26th March, we are holding a Coffee with a cop event. This is your chance to chat with the local police, and security experts Global Security on your security arrangements.
2026 is about “doing,” not just “talking.” Let’s get to work.
