More About Business Improvement Districts

The Wiri Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 2006, initially with a strong focus on reducing crime in the area. Following significant improvements in safety, the Association expanded its role to support economic growth and strengthen the wider business environment.

Through the BID programme, we deliver security initiatives, advocacy, business networking, regular communications, and ongoing engagement with Council and other key agencies to improve infrastructure, services, and economic opportunities in Wiri.

How Wiri Business Association is funded

The Wiri BID represents more than 700 businesses and is funded through a BID targeted rate collected by Auckland Council. This is a small additional charge on commercial property rates within the defined area. While Council collects the targeted rate, 100% of the funds are allocated directly to the Wiri Business Association to deliver projects and services that benefit the local business community.

Membership

All business and commercial property owners within the Wiri BID boundary are eligible members. The Association operates under its own Constitution and is governed by an Executive Committee elected annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Committee sets the strategic direction and approves an annual business plan and budget, ensuring transparency and accountability to members.
